On August 26, the Ministry of Science and Technology learned from the Ministry of Science and Technology that the National Major Scientific Research Program project “Capture of Single Atom (Ion) and Quantum State Control of Optical Coupling System†applied by the Wuhan Institute of Physics and Mathematics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2011 was approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology. The chief scientist is Zhan Mingsheng researcher. The National Major Scientific Research Program supports six important research areas including protein research, quantum regulation research, nano research, development and reproduction research, stem cell research and global change research. The approved project of Wuhan Wushu belongs to the key support direction in the field of quantum control research. This is the second time that the institute has obtained support in this field as the chief scientist unit. In 2006, researcher Zhan Mingsheng applied as the chief scientist for the major scientific research project "Quantum Information Processing Based on Cold Atoms and Quantum Dots", which was supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology. The project successfully passed the project acceptance organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology in October 2010. A series of research results have been achieved. For the first time in China, laser control of single atoms and arrays of atoms has been achieved. Real-time and dynamically controllable optical dipole traps and ring trap arrays have been implemented with spatial light modulators to achieve efficient loading of atoms in a single micro-sighted dipole trap; developed InGaAs / InP APD device with single photon detection capability; built the first domestic atomic chip experiment platform. Some important theoretical issues raised have been verified by multiple experiments in the world, and the relevant results are published in Phys. Rev. Lett. As an important subject direction of Wuhan Institute of Mathematics, Quantum Information and Quantum Computing are active in a high-level team of scientists, and related research work has been recognized by domestic and foreign colleagues. The approved project "Capturing the Control of Quantum States of Single Atom (Ion) and Optical Coupling System" will aim to achieve the complete manipulation of the quantum states (internal and external states) of the atom (ion) and optical coupling system. The application of simulation, quantum information and quantum bionics lay a good foundation. The implementation of the project will further strengthen the cooperation between the Institute and domestic counterparts in related fields, and play an important role in personnel training and team building.
