Science Eyes + Outdoors Play Winter Break "Eye Defense Battle"

During the winter holidays, excessive use of electronic products, excessive density of private tutoring, combined with inadequate outdoor exercise, irregular courses and schedules, incorrect reading and writing postures, etc. Did the child’s vision have quietly lighted up in the red light? Do you have enough emphasis on the child's vision protection and what preventive measures are correct and effective for children who have already had poor vision?

Before the winter vacation, the third grade primary school student Sui Sui brought back from the school a large watch called "Focus on My Eyesight". Over the next five months, this vision chart will be posted at the ear of the ear, reminding her to protect her eyesight.

This form was produced by the School Health Center of the Beijing CDC. The left part is a 5-meter standard logarithmic vision chart, and the right part is a visual acuity chart. Sui Sui said that the school requires each student to record the left and right eye visually recorded on a weekly basis under the supervision of the parents, and mark it on the self-viewing chart, so that parents can visualize changes in their children's eyesight at a glance.

According to the request, the home vision self-test not only covers the winter vacation period, but will continue until the end of May 2017. Afterwards, parents should hand over the measurement results and signature receipts to the school. The school will conduct statistics and analysis of the data.

Be wary of the danger of falling vision during the winter break

The persistently higher rate of detection of poor eyesight and even a younger age have seriously affected the health of primary and secondary school students. Ms. Jiang’s daughter had just entered the first grade this year. She was recently examined for myopia in school medical examinations. Ms. Jiang said that before the winter vacation, the head teacher sent the parents a list of students with poor vision. More than 30 people in the class had 7 or 8 children with poor eyesight, and the proportion of bad eyesight was more than 20%.

The 2015 Beijing Health and Population Health Status Report shows that the visually impaired detection rate of primary and secondary school students in the city from 2014 to 2015 was 59.2%. Looking at the statistical data for the 2009-2013 school year, the detection rate of poor vision among primary and secondary school students in Beijing has been around 60%.

At present, controlling the detection rate of newly-added vision has become one of the focuses of the school's work. The rate of new visual acuity detection in the class is linked to the assessment of the head teacher. Chaoyang District is a district and county in Beijing that carried out early grade classification of poor eyesight in primary and secondary schools. According to Zhong Yan, the person in charge of the Chaoyang District School of Primary and Secondary Health Care, Chaoyang District uses the school’s annual visual impairment detection rate and the previous school year vision. The difference in bad detection rate serves as an important basis for school early warning. In 2015, Beijing’s primary and middle school students’ grades of visually impaired warnings also draw on Chaoyang’s experience.

It is understood that the current poor vision warnings for primary and middle school students in Beijing are divided into Level I, Level II, and Level III warnings, which are marked with three colors: yellow, orange, and red. Among them, Level I warnings indicate that the difference between the prevalence of poor eyesight in the school year and the prevalence of poor eyesight in the previous school year is within 1-3 percentage points, the warning level II is within 3-5 percentage points, and the warning level III is 5 Percentage or more. Zhong Yan said that in the Chaoyang District, schools that meet or exceed Level II warnings, the relevant departments must conduct special supervision of the schools, and check and track the implementation and effectiveness of the school's poor vision for prevention and control.

Chen Jinglun High School has never been on the list of poor vision in Chaoyang District for many years. School doctor Zhang Sumei stated that this is inseparable from the attention of all parties in the school to the problem of vision. Zhang Sumei also frankly stated that during the winter holidays, uncontrolled use of electronic products, excessive extra-curricular learning, and insufficient outdoor sports time will have a greater impact on students' eyesight. Often after the holidays, the students’ vision will decline.

Choose tools to develop good eye habits

Our eyes are very good. How can a child be nearsighted? Ms. Jiang recalls her daily eye habits. Her daughter, in addition to her special love of reading, does not seem to have other factors that cause poor eyesight. Children like to read books, read pre-school classes before school, and pay little attention to correct reading and writing. In order to correct the child's sitting position, Ms. Jiang bought her daughter a good back and reported to the dance class. She also went to other parents to find a home-school institution and asked her to take an hour-long eye relaxation treatment.

Ms. Chen, the mother of Sui Sui, said that the children’s class places great emphasis on the control of the rate of poor vision. At present, there are 2 students with poor vision, but there are many children with peripheral vision, so the school’s prevention and control of children’s myopia is tight.

Ms. Chen told reporters that in order to develop the correct reading and writing posture for the children's three ones, the head teacher of Sui Sui invented a foot rope. As long as parents prepare a rope loop, according to the student's correct sitting position, put the loop on one end of the child's neck and the other end on the right thumb, and then fix the length of the loop. As long as the rope is straight when reading and writing, it means that the sitting posture meets the requirements, and the rope is bent, indicating that the posture is not correct. Whenever the child is taller, the rope can be adjusted according to the height of the child.

In the past, I also bought tools such as seated braces for children, but because of the need to support the chin, children would not love to use them after several occasions. Ms. Chen said that one foot is a simple and convenient way to save money. Now that my daughter writes a job, she puts on a loop. Once the posture is correct, she will immediately realize that.

Expert question and answer

2 hours outdoor activity increase

Ran Changbin, Chief Physician, Department of Ophthalmology, Beijing Tongren Hospital

Zhang Sumei, Chen Jinglun School, Poly Campus School

Q: How do students make reasonable use of eye time during the winter vacation?

Zhang Sumei: Now that many winter vacations have to be completed with the help of the Internet, it is inevitable that children use electronic devices. It is suggested that parents pay attention to the time when children use electronic products. Middle school students must arrange a rest for about 10 minutes after using for one hour.

In addition, outdoor sports is very important to protect children's vision. It is advisable to increase the length of children's outdoor sports as much as possible during an hour of outdoor sports. Parents can use their children to play badminton, skating, and parks.

Q: What should parents do when the child has vision loss?

Min Changbin: When the child's vision drops slightly, parents should take him (her) to the regular hospital to do diplopia optometry examination.

If this is the first time a visual examination has been performed, it is recommended that atropine be used for dilated pupil examination. By this examination method, true myopia and pseudo myopia can be distinguished and the results are most accurate. After the inspection, if the child's vision is found to be plus or minus 100 degrees, depending on the doctor's advice and personal circumstances, whether or not the glasses are to be considered; if the vision is above 200 degrees or the child has already had problems reading or seeing the blackboard, it is recommended that the glasses be timely.

Q: Many parents worry that if you wear glasses, you can't get them off. Is this concern reasonable?

Qi Changbin: This is a misunderstanding. Once the child has true myopia, the degree will gradually deepen over time. If you do not wear glasses in time, the growth rate may be faster; and timely wear appropriate glasses, can slow down the increase in myopia. Parents should not resist wearing glasses and should choose their child’s actual situation.

Q: Can you eliminate nearsightedness if you perform external interventions such as regular eye-catching after myopia?

Min Changbin: It is unlikely. True myopia is basically irreversible, and it is difficult to achieve corrective vision and eliminate myopia by rational use of external interventions such as eyes when myopia has already occurred.

Q: For children who are already nearsighted, is there any way to slow down the increase in power?

Min Changbin: According to the results of clinical large-scale data surveys, there are three ways to increase the effective degree of mitigation: wear OK lenses (orthroplastic lenses); atropine with a 0.01% drop concentration, and increase outdoor activities by 2 hours each day.

OK mirror is recommended for children over 8 years of age who have good medical compliance. Generally speaking, it is possible to consider wearing a child that meets the requirements of convenient eye examination, better home conditions, and good hygiene habits. During wear, children are required to follow the doctor's instructions and see a doctor to check with them. Previously, OK mirror had been stopped, due to the production of non-standard products, as well as the failure to educate patients to cause corneal infection during wear and other issues.

In recent years, with the development of medicine, as long as patients can wear OK lenses in regular hospitals and comply with doctor's orders, they can achieve the effect of increasing the number of slowdowns, but they cannot completely eliminate myopia.

Tips

Before going to glasses to the regular hospital to optometry, spectacles to adjust in time.

Every year 1-2 visual inspections should be done, and abnormalities will be found.

When you need glasses, you should go to the regular hospital dilation optometry. Wear suitable glasses.

When the physical examination shows that there is a change in vision, regardless of whether the increase or decrease, must go to the hospital for further examination, timely adjustment of spectacles.
