First, the imaging mechanism of inkjet printing

1. Composition of inkjet imaging system

The inkjet imaging system consists of a nozzle, an ink stick, a charging system, a deflector, a recovery tank, an image receiving medium, and a necessary transmission control system. The contact between the nozzle and the image medium is in a non-contact state, and the small ink droplets ejected by the nozzle directly adhere to the substrate to form a visible image. The classification of inkjet printing is shown in Figure 1.

2. Inkjet imaging method and its imaging mechanism

There are many kinds of inkjet printing methods. The basic principle is to input the graphic information stored in the computer into the inkjet printer first, and then spray the fog from the nozzle onto the surface of the substrate under the control of the computer through a special device. The droplets form directly on the surface of the substrate based on the effect of charge and become the final print. According to the ink jet system classification, continuous ink jet system and intermittent ink jet system are included.

Continuous ink jet includes two types of binary deflection ink jet systems and multi-value deflection ink jet systems. In the binary deflection process, the ink droplets are in two states of charge, the charged ink droplets are deflected by the electric field, and the uncharged ink droplets are transferred to the substrate. In multi-level deflection, different ink droplets receive different charges, produce different deflections, and move to different positions in the substrate. As shown in Figure 2.

In intermittent ink jet printing systems, the most common ones include thermal bubble ink jet printing, piezoelectric ink jet printing, and electrostatic ink jet printing. The imaging principle is shown in Figure 3.

In the thermal bubble jet printing process, the ink is evaporated by heating, a certain amount of ink is ejected from the nozzle, bubbles are formed under the applied pressure, and then transferred to the substrate.

In a piezoelectric ink jet system, ink droplets are generated by a volume change caused by the pressure effect in the ink chamber, and the ink droplets are ejected from the nozzle system and transferred to the substrate.

In the electrostatic ink jet printing process, there is an electric field between the ink jet system and the printing surface, and the ink is separated from the nozzle by the electric field and the control pulse, and the ink is released to the substrate to obtain the printing image.
