In Heerlen, The Netherlands, DSM Elastomers will launch a brand new Keltan® EPDM series made from high-quality, colorless kerosene that replaces yellow kerosene. The earliest Keltan 4551A in this series is currently undergoing commercial customer evaluations. The development code is DE 3072, which is expected to be commercialized in September 2008. Test results show that the product has higher efficiency in peroxide cure and is suitable for a wide range of product applications, including low-hardness profiles, hoses, sealing wax, bellows, and bull eyes. In addition, the product also offers possibilities for colored products and applications. Keltan 4551A is the beginning of a new era, and products produced using yellow kerosene will be phased out in the next few years. Others that will switch to white oil include K708x15 with Keltan DE 6531A, K512x50, and Keltan DE4331A. Performance The new white series Keltan offers the standard advantages of all butter series. Specifications and main properties remain unchanged. In addition to high quality colorless kerosene, the new series also provides high grade peroxide cure. Niels van der Aar, Keltan's global production manager, gave an example: "With equal mixing and rheology, the new Keltan 4551A will provide even greater peroxide cure, while reducing peroxide use by more than 30%. ."
