Photoshop color mode

Hotoshop supports 8 types of color modes. Each category can have different color gamuts and tones. The modes are the same but the quality is not necessarily the same. The following is a brief introduction:

1. Bitmap ── The images in this mode are only monochrome (Monochrome) or black and white, with no midtones.

2. Grayscale ——In this mode, the image has two shades of black and white (or monochrome), and there is a midtone. The higher the number of images, the more the hue.

3. Duotone ── The image in this mode is a two-tone color, the color consists of two main tones, and each primary color also has a tint in the middle.

4. Indexed Color ─ The image in this mode is indexed tones, the color is compressed by the system or software, and the number of image bits is reduced to save storage capacity, making it easy to store and transfer files.

5. RGB Color - In this mode the image consists of rich RGB colors, depending on the number of bits, each channel can have up to 65,536 shades. In general, 24-bit RGB images have 16.7 million tones.

6. CMYK Color ─ The images in this mode consist of rich CMYK colors, depending on the number of bits, each channel can have up to 65,536 shades. The average CMYK image is 32-bit, with 4.29 billion tones, but the actual printing capacity is limited, and the number of tones that can be expressed is only a few million.

7. Lab Color —— Lab color represents all the colors visible to humans, including all the colors that Photoshop can use for the remaining seven color modes. For humans, it has the widest color gamut.

8. Multichannel - This mode can be applied to special printing or color separation, stored as Multichannel images, each channel is a spot color. For example, Panton eHexachrome (hi Hi Color), which has 6 channels, including one CMYK four-color channel, plus a special orange and a green channel, CMYK will be recognized as a spot color in the system.
