GE Introduces New Insulating Film

At the 4th China International Power Industry Exhibition held in Beijing recently, GE Advanced Materials Co., Ltd. of the United States displayed electronic insulation, high-temperature tags, EMI shielding, and speaker sound films for high-quality ULTEM films for power supplies. Insulation materials only account for a relatively small portion of the power supply industry. However, once insulation material problems occur, it will directly affect the quality and performance of power supply products. In recent years, GE Advanced Materials has been dedicated to the research and development of high-performance insulating materials. Its products combine the characteristics of high temperature resistance, low water absorption, and excellent dielectric properties. Currently, GE's ULTEM1000B film can be used to produce front-side labels for applications with short-term temperatures up to 235°C; ULTEMXH6050B-type films can be used to produce bottom-side labels because they can withstand temperatures up to 265°C.

Electrically insulating products require thin walls and high dielectric strength to avoid potential electrical shorts. ULTEM thin film is a thin film product that can replace polyimide and is mainly used for lithium ion battery insulation. ULTEM films are also widely used in the manufacture of cell phone and other speaker sound films because of their sound attenuation properties and low hygroscopicity, as well as high glass transition temperatures from 217°C to 245°C.

At the exhibition, Chen Zhirong, marketing manager of GE's high-tech materials special film sheet division in the Greater China Region, stated that the “Measures for the Management of Pollution Caused by Electronic Information Products” formulated by China in reference to the EU RoHS legislation will be introduced within the year and will be July 1, 2006. Effectively on the day, it will put forward higher requirements for China's electronic plastic parts industry. GE's high-tech materials used for insulation of plastic film products 100% passed the EU RoHS certification, and customer requirements SGS certification will drive China's plastic insulation products to a new level.
