Korea Develops Technology to Prevent Citrus Rot

Korean agricultural scientists have recently developed a technology to suppress citrus rot that has solved the problem of extending the storage period of citrus.
Dr. Choe Yoon Hoon, Ph.D., of the Korea Agriculture Promotion Agency, Jeju Agricultural Testing Laboratory, after three years of research, extracted a substance called “natural nucleic acid” from water celery and immature citrus fruits. Using this substance can prevent citrus rot. The method is: mixing "natural nucleic acid" and adjuncts, fumigating with a fumigator, injecting fumigated and volatilized gas into a container filled with citrus, and maintaining the gas for 24 hours to 48 hours so as to infiltrate the citrus. To achieve the purpose of preservation.
Tests have shown that the use of "natural nucleic acid" gas has reduced the decay rate of citrus by half, and the storage time has more than doubled. If this technology is put into use, the losses caused by citrus rot will be reduced, and the added value of citrus will also increase.
The Korea Rural Development Agency’s Jeju Agricultural Experiment Site has transferred the “natural nucleic acid” fumigant manufacturing technology to the Seoul Greenbain Otec company. After completing the toxicity test, this technology can be commercialized.
